NEXT EXPERIENCE – EMD In My Country

European Maritime Day in My country in a nutshell
The EMD in My Country is the European Commission’s campaign to raise awareness about the
importance of the oceans and seas and of our maritime heritage to engage the public.

Your events are the public side of the European Maritime Day, the annual two-day event organised
by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for fisheries and maritime affairs (DG MARE).

The EMD in My Country celebrates a shared sense of belonging and cultural heritage with the sea.

The objective is for people to realise that activities at sea (coastal tourism, fishing, sailing, shipping,
offshore renewable energy, aquaculture etc.) are key for EU’s citizens and economies.
Hundreds of events are organised every year, bringing together citizens in their local communities.

Galway Atlantaquaria Clean Coasts Group is delighted to invite members of the public to learn about the impacts of marine litter on life in the Ocean and celebrate International EMD in My Country (European Maritime Day).

SANDARTIVITY

Using the story of the Cod as a historical foundation, we can then use Sand Sculpting Games to let the participants tell their own stories about the sea.

The event includes a Clean Coasts Litter pick, foraging for bio-facts, and building sand sculptures of fish.

Where & When

The event takes place on Grattan Beach Salthill, home to a unique Sand Fencing Project so we can talk about several Ocean Literacy Topics while on the shore.

Our primary goal is to educate people about Marine Litter, Sources, and how they can impact the Aquatic Life in the Sea.
