Inishbofin Walk
Go Explore The Wonders of Inishbofin, Guided By a Host of Talented Educators.

Established in 1984, the Inishbofin Summer School is Ireland’s longest-running environmental school. The school, which Galway Atlantaquaria runs, continues to work with the multi-disciplined team, some of which this year includes marine biologists Sibéal Regan and David McCann, ecologist, and artist Gordan D’Arcy, zoologist and science communicator Catherine McCann, archaeologist John O’ Halloran, local historian Tommy Burke and award-winning poet, songwriter and children’s writer Catherine Ann Cullen.

Inishbofin Ethos

The Summer School is designed to rejuvenate the educational soul, body, mind, and spirit through guided field study walks and talks, where teachers will experience a range of habitats and explore new teaching and learning methodologies on one of Ireland’s most beautiful heritage-rich offshore islands.

The week is wrapped in mighty traditional music and evening events, including Yoga and plenty of sea swims.

The Department of Education and Skills approves this programme as an in-service programme for teachers. Therefore, primary school teachers attending the school will be entitled to extra personal vacation (EPV) days, but the course is also open to the public.
