What Is It Like To Work In The Aquarium?
TY Experiences For Teens
TY EXPERIENCES
Hello, my name is Rachel. I am a TY student who did work experience in Galway Atlantaquaria, and this what I did.
I had to start my week online because of storm Debi on Sunday night.
On Monday I got to look at the virtual tours of the aquarium, they are being released for free, and you can watch them here!
The tour was broken up into 6 videos, showing different parts/ exhibits of the aquarium.
I also got to do research on the Aquariums website and look at all the different workshops and programmes they provide.
On Tuesday I got to go into the aquarium and met all of the staff members. Soon after, I joined in on one of the tours of the aquarium with a Galway Primary School. Seeing all the different marine life that the aquarium had was so fascinating.
On Wednesday I got to attend the Galway Youth Climate Assembly in the National University of Galway with Sibéal.
The day was filled with experts speaking in their field of expertise. There was many different work stations where companies displayed and provided information for the attendees. There was a huge attendance from secondary schools from around Galway and it was a very enjoyable experience.
On Thursday I did a seashore safari with a Galway Primary School which is part of The Explorers Education Programme. We went down to the rock pools at Grattan Beach. We got to catch so many different marine life such as Butterfish, crabs and blennies.
The kids were so excited to see all of the different animals that they caught. After we were done examining what we caught we released all of the animals back into the rock pools safely. It was a very interesting and educational event to be part of.
On Friday I finished up by going one last school tour in the aquarium. It was a lovely way to finish up my week in the Galway Atlantaquaria and I hope to see all of the staff members again soon.
Final Thoughts
Galway Atlantaquaria would like to thank Rachel for all her hard work and commitment during the TY Experience Week. She really helped, had a great mannerism, and work ethic. Thanks for sharing your experience too.
Well done.
